I made a cherry strudel the other day and was delighted when it came out of the oven all crispy, flaky and golden. The next step in the recipe was to dust it with icing sugar. I have two small stainless steel shakers in my pantry - one filled with flour and the other with icing sugar. So, naturally the one that I picked up and used was the one filled with flour. Luckily I realised the mistake quite quickly and was able to remove most of the flour with a pastry brush. A very healthy dusting of icing sugar made doubly sure that the flour could not be tasted. It was pretty easy to get the containers confused, they looked the same and so did their contents. A label or a taste test would have saved a bit of bother. We know that God does not make those sort of mistakes. Even without labelling us he knows exactly what we are and where in his ministry we should be used.
This week, let us make sure that we use the gifts that God has given us to build up his church and people.
